- IBM JOYSTICK ADAPTOR FOR THE AMIGA
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- Introduction
- ------------
-
- Have you got some games in your collection which allow for analogue
- joysticks to be used? Are you fed up with the price of Amiga analogue
- joysticks? IBM joysticks are considerably cheaper, but cannot be directly
- connected to the Amiga. This lead will allow these joysticks to be used
- without any internal modifications to either the Amiga, or the joystick.
-
- Details
- -------
-
- There are three files in this archive: Read.me (this one!)
- PinoutDetails
- LeadWiring
-
- PinoutDetails gives the pin numbers for the plugs in a form which is
- (hopefully) unambiguous. Both plugs need to be of the female gender.
-
- LeadWiring gives details of the actual wiring layout, and the resistors
- required to get correct information from the joystick to the amiga. On
- my lead I have soldered the resistors inside the 15 pin plug, as there is
- more space there than in the 9-pin side. If your soldering gymnastics are
- better than mine, then you could put the resistors inside the 9-pin plug
- instead. If you want a really smart job, then you could put the resistors
- inside the joystick, and put a 9-pin plug on the end of the joystick lead.
- Of course the joystick would then be incompatible with IBM controller cards.
- The resistors I used were 5% tolerance, 1/4 watt type.
-
- Both PinoutDetails and LeadWiring are IFF pictures created with dpaint.
- They can be loaded into DPaint for viewing, or viewed using one of the many
- IFF viewers around.
-
- Assembly hints
- --------------
-
- When you have built the lead, take care not to short circuit any of the pins
- together. The Amiga CIA chips can easily be broken by applying 5 volts to
- the wrong pins, or by short circuiting some of the pins.
-
- You have been warned!
-
- And Finally...
- --------------
-
- I don't expect anything in return for this information. I hope it proves
- useful to everyone who uses it, and saves them money. I don't want to see
- anyone making lots of money out of this. If you wish to make up leads and
- sell them to your friends for a small fee, then thats OK. If you make up
- leads and sell them to shops/businesses, then I expect to be in on it.
-
- Do I make myself clear?
-
- Finally, please circulate this file as far and wide as possible; BUT - keep
- the archive together, without additions/changes to the contents of the
- archive, or the included files.
-
- If any of the disk distribution services wish to distribute this archive
- on it's own or as part of a collection, please contact me. In exchange
- I would like a disk with some PD/shareware which I don't already have.
-
- Fred Fish is specifically excluded from this requirement, and may distribute
- this file without contact to me.
-
- IMPORTANT NOTICE:
- -----------------
-
- ANY DAMAGE/INJURY RESULTING FROM THE USE/MANUFACTURE OF THESE LEADS IS
- YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. I ACCEPT NO LIABILITY WHATSOEVER.
-
- I have one of these adaptors which I use with an A2000 and a Quickshot
- model QS-123 joystick. I have not encountered any problems with this
- combination, or with an A500 and the same joystick. If you encounter any
- problems with other combinations, let me know and I will include details
- in this archive.
